A Colposcopy is a diagnostic process that provides a deeper look at the cervix, vagina, and vulva. It is an in-office treatment that typically lasts under 30 minutes. Colposcopy, a magnification device with a light, is used to examine the cervix for any abnormal cell changes, growths, or lesions. A Pap smear-like procedure, the test lasts between five and ten minutes. Your doctor using a colposcope, a specialised magnification device, is one of the major distinctions.
Who needs a Colposcopy?
A Colposcopy may be recommended by your doctor after a positive HPV test or an abnormal Pap test to further investigate and diagnose any potential issues. This procedure examines the cervix and vagina for abnormal cell changes or abnormalities, including signs of cervical cancer.

How is the procedure Done?
To ensure optimal visibility of your cervical tissue, it is recommended to schedule a Colposcopy when you are not menstruating. During the process, you will lie on your back with your feet raised on footrests, similar to a pelvic exam. A speculum will be utilised to keep your vaginal walls open, while a gentle solution and cotton swab will be applied to your cervix and vagina to enhance the detection of any abnormalities. The colposcope, a specialized instrument, will be positioned near the vaginal entrance without insertion. If any irregularities are found, your doctor may collect samples or swabs for further analysis.
